AAdvantage just announced a whopping mileage discount for flights on its partner Japan Air Lines for flights from 01 November this year through February 29, 2012 on two routes:

• San Franciscoto Tokyo Haneda airport (closer toTokyothan Narita—a good thing!).

• VancouvertoTokyoNarita.

Business class seats get a whopping 50% off, meaning just 50,000 mile rather than 100,000 miles.

Coach class seats get a 30% discount, meaning just 30,000 mile rather than 50,000 miles.

The only downside is that the discount does not include any other connecting flights within the US or Asia, meaning that if you do not live in San Francisco or Vancouver and/or want to visit a city other than Tokyo—you either have to purchase a revenue ticket or separate mileage ticket. If you live say inAtlanta—just purchase a discount coach to San FranciscoorVancouver. And if you would prefer to say visit Hong Kong, Shanghai or Beijing rather thanJapan, just purchase a discount coach from Tokyo.
